Dead Effin Wood

The HBO series "Deadwood" (airs Sunday nights on Canada's The Movie Network), has got to take the prize for continually having the most expletives uttered in any 60 minutes of programming ever.

It's another fantastic series from HBO. (I don't know how they do, those people at Home Box Office) For those who don't know, it's a show that revolves around a newly emerging town that's deep in the Wild West and whose inhabitants live day to day without any sort of system of law to get in their way. The conniving and immoral behaviour from practically all the cast of characters is simply breath-taking to behold. That anyone could maintain and live a moral life in those surroundings is also part of the story.

Great acting. Great scripts. Great storylines.

If you haven't seen it, and have access to it, and aren't put off by every second word being a cuss word, check it out.

Finally! I am so glad that someone else has picked up on Deadwood. Thank goodness HBO has come up with another great series to replace the soon to be finished Sopranos. As for the language, I don't pay any attention to it because the story line is so great. This past weekend HBO played the last three episodes back to back. Even though I had seen them all before I was in tv heaven. Wanna bet the father the kids are looking for is Wild Bill?

Jean, I don't think those kids have a father that they're looking for. Didn't you hear the conversation between them, near the end of the ep. that implied that the two were con artists? The convo implied their story was a ruse and that they were planning a scam on the Gem. But her employment at the other hotel has them thinking of expanding that scam so they get both hotels.

I think Deadwood is an awesome show. I love the grittiness of it. Mud, dirt, dust, just like I would imagine the wild west was. Great camera work if you look for it.. Calamity Jane, best character. Love it. Makes Sunday night the best TV watching, Sapranos and then Deadwood. Its scary that I can identify with so many characters on both shows...

I watched two episodes and hated it. The characters seemed flat. The look of the show seemed authentic, however (having spent time in the dry and dusty west).

Huh. Can't say I agree with you on the 'flat' characterization, however to each their own.

Jeez Rob, thank goodness for your blog. The phone rang near the end of the episode (friends from B.C) and when I came back to the tv, I asked hubby how it ended and he said "oh, nothing earth shattering." And here I was feeling so sorry for the poor little girl before the phone rang! One thing about this show is that the penalty for wrong doing is pretty graphic and ... the pigs get to eat the bodies.Ah my gawd.
I will have to watch it again this week just to catch the ending. That's the great thing about HBO , if you miss the show once, it will be on a day or two later.
American Idol starts in five minutes...George goes tonight, right?
